About Tongham
Tongham Parish Council
The Parish Council is responsible for bus shelters, seating in the village, the annual flower baskets and Christmas lighting, the allotment gardens in Spoil Lane, and our main area of work is the recreation ground in Poyle Road, where we have the community centre (lots of activities, for example Zumba classes, pilates, slimming world, toddler groups, private parties, darts – and of course the cricket and football clubs. Check out the Tongham Community Association website!) There are several football pitches in ‘The Rec’, and of course – depending on the time of year – there is cricket. There is a new play area for older children and a little play area for smaller children. There is also an outdoor gym and a wild wooded area which is fabulous for dog walking (but please pick up any dog poo – there are plenty of bins). There is one tennis court; we used to have two, but the larger is currently undergoing a renovation as a multi-use games area with football, basketball, seating and a teen shelter – which has been held back due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Watch this space!
Tongham Allotments

Tongham Village Hall
The village hall is found in The Street, about 50 yards after the Crossroads towards to A31. This is a small, but cosy, hall which hosts many things such as art classes, martial arts classes, dance groups and also the occasional evening event. Hirers should note that there is NO parking at the hall, and very little in The Street, so it is especially suited to local hirers.
The Village Hall was built in 1897 for the benefit of the residents of Tongham to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The building was put into a charitable trust to be used for the benefit of the inhabitants of Tongham, their visitors and friends.
There are two foundation stones: the first was laid by H M Chester on 25th December 1897 and the second by the vicar the Rev H M Harke. The Hall has been the home of various sports, cultural and social gatherings such as the Tongham Women’s Institute, and the Tongham Olde Time Dance Club now activities at the hall include Yoga, Tai Chi, Dance, Puppy Training, Table Tennis, Art Classes and children’s parties.
