Fireworks in Tongham
Thank you everyone for coming along and we look forward to seeing you all again on November 1st 2026!
Fireworks 2025
Sending a big “Thank you” to everyone who came along to the firework display on Sunday. We hope you enjoyed the event and had a great time. We are happy to report very positive feedback on the beacons.
We are extremely grateful to everyone involved in making the evening a success, in particular 4th Farnham Scout Group and all the volunteers who keep everyone safe.
Also to be thanked are St John Ambulance, the security staff, the hardworking bar staff and the traders we invite to participate.
In order for us to be able to continue to provide community events we want to build a list of local people who are willing to spend a little time helping out as and when required. If you feel this is something you could be involved with we will be pleased to hear from you. Kindly email: clerk@ tonghamparishcouncil.gov.uk with your contact details.
We would also remind you we are looking for a volunteer social media whizz who can assist with posting information on our behalf. Please email the Clerk as above.
Bonfire & Fireworks 2024
Once again the village enjoyed a fantastic bonfire night at The Rec on Sunday 4 November.
The event was very well attended and a large number made donations for entry for which we are most grateful. The fireworks were spectacular and the bonfire bigger and better than ever. We were pleased to have Guildford Mayor, Councillor Sallie Barker MBE, attend and lead the torchlight parade.
We are indebted to all those who helped with the organisation and running of the event including 4th Farnham Scout Group who did a sterling job in providing burgers and hot dogs and other refreshments as well as shaking buckets at the entrances. The bar staff in the Community Centre worked hard to keep up with the demand for beverages and many enjoyed the rides and other stalls. We send a big thank you to all those involved including the stewards and those who came to clear the site the next morning.
We are continually looking at improving the event and this year we engaged St. John Ambulance to attend. Thankfully their services were only required for just a couple of small incidents. We also had additional stewards available and this helped with movement of crowds, particularly on exit. Unfortunately parking and traffic is always a bit of an issue but quickly clears. We urge you all to consider walking to the event if you possibly can and look forward to seeing everyone again next year – a date for your diaries – 2nd November 2025.
Bonfire & Fireworks 2023
Yet another fantastic Bonfire and firework night down at Tongham Recreation ground. The locals turned out in great numbers and as always were generous with their donation’s upon entry, raising almost £ 4300.00 which is an amazing amount, of which 50% will go towards much needed funds to finish off the new scout headquarters along Poyle Road and the other 50% going back to the Parish council for various projects within the village.
We would like to thank everyone for their help in building the bonfire on the Saturday, we had a number of volunteers and I think we ended up with one of the biggest bonfires we have ever had, thanks also to the Parish clerk, Parish councillors and other volunteers who provided much needed tea, coffee and bacon rolls for all volunteers.
To the day itself, the usual attractions and food outlets were on offer along with a very busy community centre bar, superbly marshalled by the centre manager Charlotte Gray and her staff, the scout’s as always doing their bucket shaking at the main gate and doing their upmost to keep traffic flowing along Poyle Road, as well as feeding everyone at their burger tent.
Thanks to Gordon Tyreman for keeping a careful eye on things via his mobile CCTV unit and to Pete Hawkins, a Tongham based DJ who put on a great show with his varied mix of music. Many thanks to all Parish Councillors for helping to Steward the event.
Finally what can you say regards the fireworks, Jason and his team seem to get better and better with each passing year, throw in the torch light procession by the scouts and you have yourselves a pretty spectacular value for money village event we can all be proud of.
Our humblest apologies if we have forgotten to mention anyone which I guess with so many involved you always run the risk of doing, you all know who you are and that your help is very much appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!!
A special thanks goes to our Parish Council Chairman, Les Oakley, for his arranging of this dazzling event year on year.
