Tongham Scouts

4th Farnham (Tongham) Scouts

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-goers. Sure, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games and taking on new challenges.
Across the UK, more than half a million people every week have the opportunity to be involved in activities which develop them with #SkillsForLife.
4th Farnham (Tongham) Scout Group welcomes everyone. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them and we’ll help them find it!

Until it was finally demolished in 2021, the old Scout hut was a wooden pre-war ex-Army hut.  It was very basic, not having been designed to last all these years, with the walls moving on windy nights and the rain coming in.  There was no heating system and the kitchen and toilet facilities were in poor condition.

Planning permission was granted in 2017 for a replacement building and a huge amount of fundraising has taken place over many years with lots of support from the local community.

Initially, build costs were expected to be £320k however due to global increases in building materials and labour, this cost is now expected to be around the £355k mark.  It is hoped that this will be reduced somewhat with volunteer labour and donations of materials in the next stage, the internal fit out.

The building is now virtually watertight and ready for Stage 2.

We will be issuing pleas for help for the internal fitout over the coming months so if you have any specialist skills such as electrics, plumbing, plasterboarding, painting, etc, we would love to hear from you. Additionally, we will be looking to local businesses to support us with materials such as pipework, cabling, sanitaryware, kitchen units, etc.
We continue to explore various grant options and to organise events. There are also some other initiatives which the local community can take part in to help raise funds, such as:
